How to Use 911
Seconds count in an emergency! When fire, police or
medical emergencies occur, 9-1-1 can help save precious time. It can mean saving
a home, property or even a life.
When you have an emergency in the Beresford area, just
dial 9-1-1. It is easy to remember and your call is answered by a trained
emergency communications specialist who will provide you with assistance in your
emergency. When you need emergency help, quick response is critical. The 9-1-1
service is an telecommunications system designed to gather necessary information
and dispatch emergency services as quickly as possible. Here's how it works in
our community.
When the emergency communications specialist
answers, tell them which emergency agency you need, describe the emergency,
and give the exact location where help is needed (example: 1301 S. 3rd
Street, 6th and Hemlock, 300 block of West Spruce).

TELEPHONE NUMBER DISPLAYED
As an added safety feature, your telephone number is displayed when the call
taker answers your call. This provides greater protection for residents in
the Beresford 9-1-1 system because it enables the call taker to
call you back if in the excitement you neglect to give all the necessary
information to obtain assistance. Knowing the telephone number of an emergency
call can help the call taker track down the location of the call should the
caller be unable to talk. 9-1-1 is to be used for emergency purposes only. For
other fire, police or ambulance, please check your
telephone directory for the seven-digit telephone number.

HOW 9-1-1 WORKS
When you dial 9-1-1 your call is received by
an emergency communications specialist at the Bureau of Emergency
Communications who is responsible for processing your call. The
emergency communications specialist determines which agency is
needed, and what type of emergency you have. The priority of the
call will determine the response time in which the call will be
dispatched. At the Beresford Dispatch Center, all emergency
communications specialists are trained call takers for police, fire,
or medical assistance. If you need help and are outside the limits
of Beresford, it is very helpful if you know the rural address where
you are located. This information will put you in contact with the
appropriate agency immediately. |
