“AMERICA’S FASTEST GROWING EXTREME SPORT”
Chad Fletcher and Melissa Gannon are the owners/operators of Xtreme Power Ball, a complete paintball outfitter, located in the Colome area. What is paintball? Paintball is America’s fastest growing extreme sport. Paintball is a sport that has no barriers to gender, strength or age. It is a challenging and exciting sport that teaches many valuable skills. Paintball is safer than football, basketball and soccer because the rules forbid physical contact. The sport encourages youths and adults, and men and women to play together on teams. It encourages social interaction between younger players and adults and promotes equality between men and women. Chad first found out about the game from his friends in Iowa, who were in the National Guard. They played paintball every weekend. Fletcher watched his buddies play, then he started to play and became very exited about the sport. Chad decided he would like to start his own business of paintball. He thought it would be something that people in his small hometown would be interested in, give the kids of the area something fun to do, and it would also add to the community. The young man approached his parents, Lonnie and Diane Fletcher, of rural Colome, about this idea, and asked if he could locate his business on their farm. “At first my parents said maybe I should start out with just a couple paint guns, and start out small to see how it goes,” Chad commented. “But I told them if I didn’t have the proper equipment, and enough of it, playing the sport wouldn’t be very fun for the participants. Unless we have the proper equipment, so enough players could play against each other, we would lose the whole point of the sport-”Team work,” Fletcher added. Fletcher’s parents now play a big role in the business. The game field is set up on their farm in one of the fields. Here they have lots of cover, such as trees, brush, forts, pallets, barrels, and barricades. It resembles some sort of obstacle course. |
